Key actives
Centella Asiatica Oil
The oil-soluble fraction of centella, carried in a plant oil. It brings the fat-soluble part of the plant that a water extract leaves behind.
Asiaticoside
Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised.
Madecassic Acid
Madecassic Acid is the fourth centella triterpene. A list that names all four is telling you the extract was standardised rather than simply pressed, which is the difference between a cica claim and a cica formula.
Asiatic Acid
Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.
Coconut Acid
Coconut Acid is the mixed fatty acids of coconut oil. Combined with an alkali in the same formula it forms the soap that does the cleansing.
Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract
Fig Fruit Extract carries fruit sugars, mild acids and a protein-digesting enzyme. It is used as a hydrating extract with a light smoothing effect.
Phytosphingosine
Phytosphingosine is the backbone every ceramide is built on, and skin uses it in its own lipid layer. In a formula it works with ceramides and cholesterol and also keeps the product stable against microbes.
How to use
- Use it the first step of a routine, on damp skin. AM and PM.

Can I use this every day?
A cleanser can typically be used daily; an exfoliating step is usually better limited to a few times a week, so check the pack for its stated frequency.

How it works
The panel on this oil names five forms of centella asiatica rather than one: Centella Asiatica Oil, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Centella Asiatica Extract. The oil-soluble fraction of centella, carried in a plant oil. It brings the fat-soluble part of the plant that a water extract leaves behind. On this panel it sits alongside Coconut Acid, Ficus Carica (Fig) Fruit Extract and Phytosphingosine. Coconut Acid is the mixed fatty acids of coconut oil. Combined with an alkali in the same formula it forms the soap that does the cleansing.
Worth knowing
- Avoid the eye area and rinse fully with lukewarm water.
