How it works

Salicylic Acid is named on the ingredient panel on this cleanser. Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin. On this panel it sits alongside Niacinamide, Hydrolyzed Collagen and Retinol. Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.

Key benefits

  • Salicylic Acid named on this product's own ingredient panel
  • Niacinamide on the same panel, the formula's active
  • Hydrolyzed Collagen on the same panel, the formula's protein
  • Korean-market formula, with its Korean barcode and batch code intact on the box

Key actives

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Hydrolyzed Collagen is collagen broken into fragments small enough to dissolve in water. It cannot become collagen in skin; what it does is hold water at the surface and leave a smooth, conditioned film.

Retinol

Retinol is the alcohol form of vitamin A and the strongest retinoid available without a prescription. Skin converts it in two steps to retinoic acid, and it is used at night, at low percentages, for the look of fine lines and rough texture. It can leave skin flaking while it acclimatises.

How to use

  1. Use the Kojic Acid Turmeric Vita Whip Cleanser as your first step, morning and evening, on a face already wet with lukewarm water.
  2. A short pump or a pea of product is enough. Work it into a lather in wet hands for about twenty seconds before it touches the face.
  3. Rinse with lukewarm water and go straight on to your toner while skin is still damp, because a humectant layer has more to hold on to on a damp face.
  4. Twice a day is the ceiling. Do not follow it with a second cleanse in the morning, when there is no sunscreen or makeup left on the face to remove.

Worth knowing

  • Introduce it two to three nights a week at first and watch how the skin responds before moving to nightly use.
  • Pair it with a daily sunscreen step, since brightening and exfoliating actives can make skin more reactive to sun exposure.

What professionals say

What professionals say

What skin-care professionals say about the key actives in this formula, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • BHAs like salicylic acid get really deep into the pores, whereas the water-soluble ones don't go as deep.

Samantha Stein, PA-CDermatology physician assistant, Cleveland Clinic
  • Topical collagen is a very large molecule that's too big to absorb into the skin.

    Michelle Henry, MDDermatologist, Cosmopolitan

  • Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of pores in a few ways. By strengthening the skin barrier and improving elasticity, pores appear less noticeable and more even.
