Key actives

Sodium Hyaluronate

Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it.

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid

Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is hyaluronic acid cut into much shorter fragments. The smaller the fragment, the further into the outer layer it can settle, which is why serums stack several sizes together instead of using one.

Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a sugar chain the body already makes, and one gram of it can hold several litres of water. In a formula it is a humectant that pulls water to the surface of skin and holds it in a film, which is what makes skin look plumper while it is there.

Clitoria Ternatea Flower Extract

Butterfly pea flower extract, deep blue from its anthocyanins, which is why it colours a formula naturally. It is used as a plant antioxidant.

Pimpinella Anisum (Anise) Fruit Extract

Anise seed extract. It carries the plant's aromatic compounds and is used as a conditioning extract that contributes scent.

Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract

Vanilla bean extract. It carries vanillin, the compound its scent comes from, along with polyphenols, so it contributes fragrance as well as extract.

How to use

  1. Take a dime-sized amount of Slow Aging Cream 50ml and press it into skin as the final step of your AM and/or PM routine.

How it works

The panel on this cream names three forms of hyaluronic acid rather than one: Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Hyaluronic Acid. Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it. On this panel it sits alongside Clitoria Ternatea Flower Extract, Pimpinella Anisum (Anise) Fruit Extract and Vanilla Planifolia Fruit Extract. Butterfly pea flower extract, deep blue from its anthocyanins, which is why it colours a formula naturally. It is used as a plant antioxidant.

Worth knowing

  • This step is not a substitute for a dedicated sunscreen, which should still be the last step of the morning routine.
  • Pregnant or breastfeeding shoppers should run any new skincare step past their own physician before adding it.

What skin-care professionals say about skin care, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • Hyaluronic acid helps bind water to collagen, which traps water in the skin. That helps make the skin more plump and full-looking.
