Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer film former

Styrene/Isoprene Copolymer is a synthetic rubber used in patch adhesives. Its contribution is elasticity: the film stretches with skin instead of lifting at the edge.

Hydrogenated Poly(C6-20 Olefin) emollient

Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) is a synthetic hydrocarbon emollient. It gives a smooth, silicone-like glide and is completely stable, so it does not go rancid.

Cellulose Gum thickener

Cellulose Gum is plant cellulose modified to dissolve in water. It thickens, holds particles in suspension and gives a smooth, slippery body.

Mineral Oil occlusive

Mineral Oil is a purified petroleum-derived oil. Cosmetic grade is one of the most inert ingredients available, which is why it appears in patches, balms and formulas for easily irritated skin.

Salicylic Acid exfoliant

Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Calcium Pantothenate vitamin

Calcium Pantothenate is the calcium salt of pantothenic acid, vitamin B5. It is the salt form of the same vitamin panthenol converts to, and it hydrates and conditions.

Madecassoside active

Madecassoside is the centella triterpene most associated with the look of redness, and the one brands lead with in cica products. It is water soluble and stable, so it appears in essences as readily as in creams.
