Key actives

Asiaticoside

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised.

Madecassic Acid

Madecassic Acid is the fourth centella triterpene. A list that names all four is telling you the extract was standardised rather than simply pressed, which is the difference between a cica claim and a cica formula.

Asiatic Acid

Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.

Mineral Oil

Mineral Oil is a purified petroleum-derived oil. Cosmetic grade is one of the most inert ingredients available, which is why it appears in patches, balms and formulas for easily irritated skin.

Paraffin

Paraffin is solid petroleum-derived wax. It gives an anhydrous formula its structure and slows water loss from the surface, and it is inert.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

How to use

  1. Use it by pressing it directly over the targeted area on clean, dry skin, working it into the skin in the position this spot patch occupies in a full routine, and following up with the next step once it has settled.

How it works

The panel on this formula names three forms of centella asiatica rather than one: Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid. Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised. On this panel it sits alongside Mineral Oil, Paraffin and Salicylic Acid. Mineral Oil is a purified petroleum-derived oil. Cosmetic grade is one of the most inert ingredients available, which is why it appears in patches, balms and formulas for easily irritated skin.

Worth knowing

  • Apply to clean, dry skin only, since the adhesive will not hold on an oily or damp surface.
  • Discontinue if irritation develops at the application site.
