How it works
A foam cleanser is the water based half of a cleanse, the step that handles sweat, residue and whatever an oil cleanser loosened. It is worked into a lather in wet hands first, because a cleanser applied neat is concentrated on whatever it lands on. In the evening it is the second step after an oil or balm, and in the morning it is usually the only cleanse needed. Time matters more than force here: thirty seconds of lather beats scrubbing, which just moves the surface around. What is the TONYMOLY Fresh To Go Rice Foam Cleanser 170ml?
It is a 170ml gentle foaming cleanser, used as a morning wash or as the second step of an evening cleanse. It is the milder of two in its range, which suits people who find a strong foam leaves the face tight. Lukewarm water rather than hot is half the result.
Is the foam cleanser enough on its own?
In the morning, yes for most people. In the evening it is the second half of a cleanse rather than the whole of it, because makeup and sunscreen are not water soluble and a foam will not shift them. An oil or balm first, then this.
How much should I use and for how long?
A small amount lathered in wet hands, worked over the face for about thirty seconds. Contact time is the part people cut short and pressure is the part they overdo, and it should be the other way round. Rinse with lukewarm water rather than hot.
Will it leave my skin feeling tight?
That is usually a water temperature and duration problem rather than a product one. Hot water and a two minute scrub will leave almost any face tight, and lukewarm water with thirty seconds of lather generally does not. Going straight into a toner on damp skin also helps.

- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Stearic Acid fatty acid
- Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid from plant fats, and one of the three lipid classes skin's own barrier is built from. In a formula it thickens, stabilises the emulsion and can be turned into a soap-style cleanser by adding a base.
- Lauric Acid fatty acid
- Lauric Acid is the coconut fatty acid that gives soap-style cleansers their dense foam. It is not well suited to blemish-prone skin at high levels.
- Potassium Hydroxide pH adjuster
- Potassium Hydroxide is a strong base used in traces to raise a formula to its target pH. In a soap-style cleanser it also converts fatty acids into the surfactant that does the cleansing.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Glyceryl Stearate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Stearate is glycerin joined to stearic acid, and one of the most used emulsifiers in skincare. It holds oil and water together and thickens the result, and it softens skin at the same time.
- PEG-100 Stearate emulsifier
- PEG-100 Stearate is a water-loving emulsifier almost always paired with glyceryl stearate. Together they form the standard cream base of the last fifty years.
- Polysorbate 20 emulsifier
- Polysorbate 20 is a solubiliser: it dissolves small amounts of oil or fragrance into a watery formula so nothing separates or floats.
- Oryza Sativa(Rice) Bran Oil(1,000Ppm) emollient
- Rice Bran Oil is pressed from the bran left over from milling rice. It carries vitamin E and a group of rice-specific antioxidants, and it is a light emollient.
- Sorbitan Olivate emulsifier
- Sorbitan Olivate is an olive-derived emulsifier, the oil-loving half of the pair sold as Olivem. It holds oil into water and leaves a light, non-waxy feel.
- Glycol Distearate emollient
- A wax-like ester that thickens a cleanser and gives it a pearly opacity. It also leaves a conditioned feel behind after rinsing.
- Sodium Chloride thickener
- Sodium Chloride is salt. In a cleanser it thickens the liquid; in a mask or essence it balances the mineral content of the water phase. It has no active role.
