Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract (85.47%) plant extract

Aloe Leaf Extract is mostly water with polysaccharides, amino acids and mild plant acids. It hydrates and leaves a light, cooling film, which is why it is the default after-sun ingredient.

Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil (2.5%) emollient

Jojoba Oil is a liquid wax rather than a true oil, and its structure is close to human sebum, which is why it absorbs so readily. It is an emollient that leaves a soft, non-greasy finish.

Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil (2%) emollient

Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.

Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter (1.5%) emollient

Shea Butter is the fat pressed from the shea nut, rich in oleic and stearic acids and unsaponifiable plant sterols. It is a heavy emollient and partial occlusive, which is why it sits in balms and night creams rather than in essences.

Cetyl Alcohol fatty alcohol

Cetyl Alcohol is a waxy fatty alcohol from coconut or palm, unrelated to drying ethanol. It thickens creams, stabilises the emulsion and leaves skin feeling softer.

Cetearyl Olivate emulsifier

Cetearyl Olivate is the water-loving half of the olive-derived emulsifier pair. With sorbitan olivate it builds emulsions whose lipid profile is close to skin's own.

Sorbitan Olivate emulsifier

Sorbitan Olivate is an olive-derived emulsifier, the oil-loving half of the pair sold as Olivem. It holds oil into water and leaves a light, non-waxy feel.

Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter (0.5%) emollient

Cocoa butter, pressed from the cacao bean. It is firm at room temperature, high in stearic and oleic acid, and used as a rich occlusive emollient.

Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil (0.5%) emollient

Argan Oil is pressed from the argan kernel and is rich in oleic and linoleic acids plus vitamin E. It is a medium-weight emollient that absorbs reasonably fast.

Gluconolactone exfoliant

Gluconolactone is a PHA, the gentlest exfoliant class. Its molecule is too large to penetrate quickly, so it smooths the surface without the sting of an AHA, and it is a humectant at the same time.

Calendula Officinalis Flower Oil (0.1%) emollient

Marigold flowers steeped in a carrier oil, which is what a flower oil of this kind usually is. It carries the flower's oil-soluble carotenoids.
