How it works

The Jericho rose PHA toner Skin booster is a 200ml toner, used straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp. The exfoliant it is built around is Gluconolactone, named fourth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Niacinamide, Adenosine and Bakuchiol, so the exfoliant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Gluconolactone stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the toner format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the toner Abib sells in Korea, Gluconolactone and all.

Key benefits

  • Gluconolactone, the exfoliant this toner is built around
  • Niacinamide, Adenosine, Bakuchiol and Asiaticoside on the same list, actives
  • Asiatic Acid and Madecassic Acid further down the same list
  • Madecassoside and Copper Tripeptide-1 further down the same list
  • Gluconolactone named fourth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
  • The Korean-market release of this toner, confirmed against its Korean barcode

Key actives

Gluconolactoneexfoliant

Gluconolactone is a PHA, the gentlest exfoliant class. It is the entry this toner is named after, and the list carries it.

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is named sixth on this toner's list, alongside Gluconolactone.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. The panel names it twenty-seventh on this toner's list, beside Gluconolactone.

Bakuchiolactive

Bakuchiol is a compound from the babchi seed, used as a plant-derived alternative to retinol. It is oil soluble, stable in daylight and does not carry retinol's acclimatisation period, which is why sensitive-skin formulas choose it. The panel names it thirty-sixth on this toner's list, beside Gluconolactone.

Asiaticosideactive

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised. The panel names it forty-fourth on this toner's list, beside Gluconolactone.

How to use

  1. Start at two nights a week after cleansing and build up only if the skin stays comfortable.
  2. Press it over the face from damp palms rather than sweeping it off with a dry cotton pad.
  3. Follow with a moisturizer the same night, since an exfoliating step always wants sealing afterwards.
  4. Do not use it on the same night as any other exfoliating product, and never on skin that is already stinging.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this toner on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Gluconolactone on the list.
  • Gluconolactone on this list makes this toner an exfoliating step, so do not stack it with another one on the same night.

What professionals say

What professionals say

What skin-care professionals say about the key actives in this formula, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • Bakuchiol is often used as a gentler alternative to retinol. It may help your skin look smoother and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

    Shilpi Khetarpal, MDDermatologist, Cleveland Clinic
  • This means that gluconolactone acts as an exfoliating acid, but also as a moisturizer. It has moisturizing, soothing, and lightening properties, working well on dry skin.

  • Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of pores in a few ways. By strengthening the skin barrier and improving elasticity, pores appear less noticeable and more even.
