How it works

A cleansing toner is a lighter first pass than a cleansing oil or balm: it is meant to lift the day's residue and light makeup on a cotton pad, not to fully remove a heavy base alone. That lighter job is why it goes before a foam or gel cleanser rather than replacing it, the same double-cleanse logic behind most Korean evening routines. Judge it by whether the pad still picks up color after your face wash, which means the toner alone was not enough that day. It is the version sold on shelves in Korea rather than a formula reworked for a different market. Store it away from direct heat and sunlight and reseal it fully after each use, which keeps the formula working the way it is meant to for as long as the pack lasts.

Key benefits

  • What it is: Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner from ACWELL, a Korean-market toner pad.
  • On the ingredient list: Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Water, Tocopheryl Acetate, confirmed on this product's own manufacturer ingredient list rather than assumed from the category.
  • Fits into the routine: belongs to a wipe-off toning step, used right after cleansing.
  • ACWELL is a pH-balancing skincare brand built around licorice root extract and low-pH formulation.
  • Original Korean Formula: the same version sold on shelves in Korea, not a US-shelf reformulation.

How to use

  1. Use the Licorice pH Balancing Cleansing Toner straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp.
  2. Pour a moderate amount onto a cotton pad and wipe across the face along skin texture.
  3. It goes on before serum and moisturizer, and the damp layer it leaves is what the step above it holds on to.
  4. Twice a day, every day. Do not let it dry down completely before the next layer goes on, or you lose the reason for applying it to damp skin.

Worth knowing

  • Avoid the eye area, and use a separate eye makeup remover for stubborn mascara.
  • It is a first pass, not a full cleanse; always follow with your regular cleanser at night.
