How it works
Squalane, behenyl alcohol and cholesterol sit early in the list alongside two barrier-lipid amides, mirroring the mix of lipids skin's own barrier depends on rather than relying on one emollient alone. Ceramide NP, niacinamide and phytosphingosine appear further down, which is the combination AESTURA's Atobarrier 365 line is built around, and it is why this cream is positioned as the finishing step rather than an early layer.
Key benefits
- Squalane sits at position #6 of 42 on ATOBARRIER 365 Cream's own manufacturer ingredient list.
- Allantoin is also named on that same list, further down the formula.
- ATOBARRIER 365 Cream is a cream from AESTURA, taking the cream's usual place in a layered Korean routine.
- AESTURA ships ATOBARRIER 365 Cream here as the Korean-market formula, the same version sold on shelves in Korea, not a US-shelf reformulation.
- Sold with intact Korean-market barcode and batch coding rather than a US-retail relabel.
Key actives
6SqualaneIngredient #6 of 42 on the manufacturer's own ingredient list
Squalane is a lightweight emollient that mimics the skin's own natural oils. Its position on the list reflects its share of the formula relative to the other named ingredients, not a stated percentage.
22AllantoinIngredient #22 of 42 on the manufacturer's own ingredient list
Allantoin is a calming, conditioning ingredient found in nearly every Korean soothing formula. Its position on the list reflects its share of the formula relative to the other named ingredients, not a stated percentage.
24NiacinamideIngredient #24 of 42 on the manufacturer's own ingredient list
Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 used across Korean skincare for its role in a balanced, even-looking complexion. Its position on the list reflects its share of the formula relative to the other named ingredients, not a stated percentage.
25Ceramide NPIngredient #25 of 42 on the manufacturer's own ingredient list
Ceramide NP is a lipid that is a structural building block of the skin's own barrier. Its position on the list reflects its share of the formula relative to the other named ingredients, not a stated percentage.
Is this the same formula as the Atobarrier 365 Body Cream?
No, this is the facial version of the line, in a smaller 80ml size meant for the face rather than the body.
What in this cream is doing the barrier-repair work?
Cholesterol, behenyl alcohol and squalane appear together with two barrier-lipid amides, which mirrors the mix of lipids skin's own barrier depends on rather than relying on a single emollient, and is why AESTURA positions this line around barrier care.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

42 of 42 explained
- Water/Aqua/Eau solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Butylene Glycol Dicaprylate/Dicaprate emollient
- An ester of butylene glycol with coconut-derived fatty acids. It spreads thin and dry rather than greasy, and it dissolves oil-soluble ingredients that will not go into water.
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate emollient
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is a synthetic ester used as a dry-feeling emollient. It spreads easily, leaves a silky rather than oily finish, and helps disperse pigments and UV filters evenly.
- Squalane emollient
- Squalane is the stable, saturated version of squalene, a lipid human skin already makes. It is a light emollient that absorbs quickly, does not oxidise, and is one of the few oils widely considered safe for blemish-prone skin. Most cosmetic squalane is now from sugarcane or olive rather than shark.
- Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate emollient
- A thick, cushioned ester that gives lip and balm formulas their gloss and their cling. It is heavy enough to stay where it is put.
- Dicaprylyl Carbonate emollient
- Dicaprylyl Carbonate is a light, fast-spreading emollient with a notably dry finish. It is chosen where a formula has to spread thin without leaving a heavy film.
- Behenyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Behenyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used to thicken and stabilise a cream. It gives a richer, more velvety body than cetyl alcohol.
- Dimethicone silicone
- Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.
- Hydroxypropyl Bispalmitamide MEA barrier lipid
- A synthetic ceramide analogue, built to the same shape as a natural ceramide from palmitic acid. It is used as one of the lipids in a barrier style formula.
- Stearic Acid fatty acid
- Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid from plant fats, and one of the three lipid classes skin's own barrier is built from. In a formula it thickens, stabilises the emulsion and can be turned into a soap-style cleanser by adding a base.
30 more explained
- Betaine humectant
- Betaine is a sugar-beet-derived humectant that cells use to hold water. In a formula it hydrates and takes the edge off cleansers and acids, which is why it often appears alongside them.
- Mannitol humectant
- Mannitol is a sugar alcohol used as a humectant and antioxidant. It hydrates and helps stabilise the rest of the formula against oxidation.
- C14-22 Alcohols fatty alcohol
- C14-22 Alcohols is a declaration for a mixture of long-chain fatty alcohols. They thicken a cream and hold the emulsion together.
- Palmitic Acid fatty acid
- Palmitic Acid is a saturated fatty acid present in skin's own lipids. It thickens a formula, stabilises the emulsion and softens skin.
- Hydroxypropyl Bislauramide MEA barrier lipid
- A synthetic ceramide-type lipid built from lauric acid. It reinforces the lipid layer between skin cells.
- Arachidyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Arachidyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used as a thickener and emollient, usually alongside behenyl alcohol.
- Cholesterol barrier lipid
- Cholesterol is the third of the three lipids the outer layer of skin is built from, with ceramides and fatty acids. Formulas that carry all three are following the ratio skin itself holds.
- Polyacrylate-13 thickener
- Polyacrylate-13 is a pre-neutralised thickener that gels instantly and holds an emulsion together, so a formula can be built without heat.
- C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside emulsifier
- C12-20 Alkyl Glucoside is a sugar-derived emulsifier used in mild, plant-based cream bases.
- Allantoin active
- Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin.
- Arachidyl Glucoside emulsifier
- Arachidyl Glucoside is a sugar-derived co-emulsifier, usually supplied with arachidyl and behenyl alcohols as a plant-based cream base.
- Niacinamide active
- Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.
- Ceramide NP barrier lipid
- Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy.
- Glyceryl Caprylate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Caprylate is a mild emulsifier that also makes a formula less hospitable to microbes, so it is often part of a preservative-free system.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
- Hydrogenated Polyisobutene emollient
- Hydrogenated Polyisobutene is a stabilised synthetic hydrocarbon used in place of mineral oil. It is an emollient that leaves a smooth, cushioned film.
- Carbomer thickener
- Carbomer is a synthetic polymer that only gels once a base neutralises it, which is why arginine or tromethamine sits nearby on the list. It gives the clear, non-stringy gel texture a xanthan formula cannot reach.
- Tromethamine pH adjuster
- Tromethamine neutralises acidic thickeners such as carbomer so they gel, and holds a formula near skin-friendly pH. It is used at a fraction of a percent.
- Dimethiconol silicone
- Dimethiconol is a high-molecular-weight silicone that leaves a longer-lasting smooth film than dimethicone. It is used for lasting slip and shine.
- Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate emulsifier
- Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate is a sugar-derived emulsifier and solubiliser, mild enough to be a standard choice in Korean essences. It dissolves small amounts of oil into water without any tightening feel.
- Hydrogenated Lecithin emulsifier
- Hydrogenated Lecithin is lecithin with its unsaturated bonds filled in, which makes it far more stable. It emulsifies and is the standard shell for the liposomes that carry actives into the outer layer of skin.
- Ethylhexyl Palmitate emollient
- Ethylhexyl Palmitate is a palm-derived ester used as a light emollient and a solvent for pigment. It gives a smooth, non-greasy slip.
- Acrylates/Ammonium Methacrylate Copolymer film former
- A synthetic copolymer used as a film former and a suspending agent. It sets to a flexible film, which is what holds a peel off or long wearing formula together.
- Sorbitan Isostearate emulsifier
- Sorbitan Isostearate is a mild emulsifier that holds water into oil, the direction a cleansing balm or an oil-based cream needs.
- Silica absorbent
- Silica is finely milled mineral, essentially very pure sand. It absorbs oil, stops powders clumping and soft-focuses the look of pores and fine lines.
- Phytosphingosine barrier lipid
- Phytosphingosine is the backbone every ceramide is built on, and skin uses it in its own lipid layer. In a formula it works with ceramides and cholesterol and also keeps the product stable against microbes.
- Sphingolipids barrier lipid
- Sphingolipids are the lipid class ceramides belong to, declared as a group when a formula uses a mixed fraction. They are one of the three lipid families that make up the mortar between surface skin cells.
- Arachidic Acid fatty acid
- Arachidic Acid is a long-chain saturated fatty acid used to thicken and stabilise a formula.
- Tocopherol antioxidant
- Tocopherol is vitamin E. It is an oil-soluble antioxidant that protects the oils in a formula from going rancid and works on skin as an emollient, and it is regularly paired with vitamin C because each keeps the other going for longer.
- Oleic Acid fatty acid
- Oleic Acid is the main fatty acid in olive and many nut oils. It is a rich emollient that softens skin and can feel heavy on skin prone to congestion.
