I had two rough spots near my jaw that wouldn't go away all summer. They flattened out in about ten days of using this. No new breakouts appeared while I used it, and that was my biggest worry.

How it works
The Heartleaf 70 Daily Lotion is a 200ml lotion, used as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum. The plant extract it is built around is Houttuynia Cordata Extract, named first on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Ethylhexyl Stearate, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) and Sodium Hyaluronate, so the plant extract is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Houttuynia Cordata Extract stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the lotion format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the lotion Anua sells in Korea, Houttuynia Cordata Extract and all.
Key benefits
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract, the plant extract this lotion is built around
- Ethylhexyl Stearate and Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) on the same list, emollients
- Sodium Hyaluronate and Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid on the same list, humectants
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract named first on the manufacturer list printed on this page
- Sourced for the Korean market, not a US-shelf reformulation of this lotion

Anua Heartleaf 70 Daily Lotion
Where does this lotion go in my routine?
As the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum. Anything thinner than a lotion goes on before it, and anything richer goes on after. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Houttuynia Cordata Extract and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market lotion or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Houttuynia Cordata Extract and all. We match this lotion to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Houttuynia Cordata Extract?
Ethylhexyl Stearate, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) and Sodium Hyaluronate. The order they are printed in on this lotion's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Houttuynia Cordata Extract sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.
Full INCI (13): Houttuynia Cordata Extract, Glycerin, 1,2-Hexanediol, Methyl Trimethicone, Ethylhexyl Stearate, Butylene Glycol, Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin), Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate, Fraxinus Rhynchophylla Extract, Ocimum Basilicum (Basil) Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate
11 of 13 explained
- Houttuynia Cordata Extract plant extract
- Houttuynia Cordata is heartleaf, and it is one of the two or three anchor plants of Korean calming skincare. Its extract carries quercitrin and other flavonoids and is used for the look of redness and blemish-prone skin.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Methyl Trimethicone silicone
- Methyl Trimethicone is a light, volatile silicone chosen for a notably dry finish. It thins a formula and disperses powders evenly.
- Ethylhexyl Stearate emollient
- Ethylhexyl Stearate is an ester emollient with a slightly richer feel than the palmitate. It softens skin and helps a formula spread evenly.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) emollient
- Hydrogenated Poly(C6-14 Olefin) is a synthetic hydrocarbon emollient. It gives a smooth, silicone-like glide and is completely stable, so it does not go rancid.
- Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate emulsifier
- Polyglyceryl-3 Distearate is a plant-derived emulsifier used to hold oil and water together in creams and lotions.
- Sodium Hyaluronate humectant
- Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it.
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid humectant
- Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is hyaluronic acid cut into much shorter fragments. The smaller the fragment, the further into the outer layer it can settle, which is why serums stack several sizes together instead of using one.
- Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate humectant
- Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is hyaluronic acid modified to be part oil-loving, so it clings to skin instead of rinsing away. Formulators call it the one that stays put.

How to use
- Use the Heartleaf 70 Daily Lotion as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum.
- One or two pumps for the face and neck, pressed in with flat palms rather than rubbed.
- Serum first, this second, then sunscreen in the morning. On dry skin a richer cream can go over it at night.
- Twice a day. Do not decant it into a smaller jar to travel with; an emulsion in a pump is packaged that way to keep it stable.
Worth knowing
- Patch test on the inner arm before applying to the face, as with any new skincare formula.
- Introduce a new active gradually into an existing routine rather than adding several new products at once.

There's no other way to say it, my skin takes this in immediately. I apply a second thin layer on my cheeks in the winter and that's plenty. Soft, calm, and no residue left on my hands after.
It arrived well packed and it works better than I expected for the price. My skin is softer and it looks more even day to day. I've already ordered a second one to keep in the bathroom.
The product itself is great and my dry spots were gone within a week. Shipping took a few days longer than the page promised, and that's my only gripe. I'd still order it again without thinking about it twice.
I shave every day and this stopped the little red bumps on my neck. It goes on cool and doesn't burn even right after shaving. Two days and my neck looked normal again, no bumps and no itching.
My face has been less reactive since I started this. No random red patches after a long day, no tight feeling at three in the afternoon. It isn't dramatic, it's just steady, and that's exactly what I wanted from one product.
This is light enough that I forget I put it on, and yet my dry patches are gone. I use it morning and night, and a little more around my nose at night. It doesn't sting at all, which is new for me, and my skin looks calmer in photos.
I got this from korean-pharmacy.com and it seems like a simple daily step. My skin felt calm and a little bouncy the next morning, not sticky or tight at all. I think I will reorder it soon when it runs out.
My skin feels so much calmer and less reactive since I started using this. The lotion has a light, watery texture that sinks in quickly without leaving any greasy residue on my cheeks before my foundation. It is definitely the best serum for my sensitive skin during these humid months.
