Key actives

Hexapeptide-11

Hexapeptide-11 is a yeast-derived six-amino-acid peptide used for the look of resilience and firmness.

Oligopeptide-1

Oligopeptide-1 is a short synthetic peptide. Oligo means the chain is short without the name fixing its length, which is why oligopeptides appear in blends where several sequences work together.

Oligopeptide-2

Oligopeptide-2 is a short synthetic peptide, water soluble like most of the unmodified oligopeptides. It is supplied as one component of a blend.

Oligopeptide-3

Oligopeptide-3 is another short synthetic peptide sequence. Numbered oligopeptides that sit next to each other on a label are separate sequences, not doses of one ingredient.

Coptis Japonica Root Extract

Coptis Japonica is a traditional East Asian medicinal root, bright yellow from its berberine content. In skincare its extract is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Ceramide NP

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy.

Hydrolyzed Collagen

Hydrolyzed Collagen is collagen broken into fragments small enough to dissolve in water. It cannot become collagen in skin; what it does is hold water at the surface and leave a smooth, conditioned film.

How to use

  1. Use the Skin Barrier Calming Lotion Barrier Care & Boost Glow as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum.
  2. Apply the ongredients Calming Lotion EX twice daily, at the final step in your morning and evening skin care routines. Take an appropriate amount and gently massage it into your face. Lightly tap skin to aid absorption. If your skin needs extra hydration, layer the lotion two or three times for more intense moisturizing and calming care.
  3. Serum first, this second, then sunscreen in the morning. On dry skin a richer cream can go over it at night.
  4. Twice a day. Do not decant it into a smaller jar to travel with; an emulsion in a pump is packaged that way to keep it stable.

How it works

The panel on this lotion names twelve forms of peptide rather than one: Hexapeptide-11, Oligopeptide-1, Oligopeptide-2, Oligopeptide-3, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Avena Sativa (Oat) Peptide, Copper Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12, Palmitoyl Pentapeptide-4, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Tripeptide-1. Hexapeptide-11 is a yeast-derived six-amino-acid peptide used for the look of resilience and firmness. On this panel it sits alongside Coptis Japonica Root Extract, Ceramide NP and Hydrolyzed Collagen. Coptis Japonica is a traditional East Asian medicinal root, bright yellow from its berberine content. In skincare its extract is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Worth knowing

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding shoppers should run any new skincare step past their own physician before adding it.
  • This step is not a substitute for a dedicated sunscreen, which should still be the last step of the morning routine.
  • New actives, including this one, are best patch tested on the inner arm before a first full-face use.
