How it works

The Niacinamide TXA Brightening Booster Toner is a toner, used straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp. The active it is built around is Niacinamide, named second on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Tranexamic Acid, Adenosine and Kojic Acid, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Niacinamide stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the toner format rather than by the list alone. Anua sells this Niacinamide toner in Korea, and this is that version.

Key benefits

  • Niacinamide, the active this toner is built around
  • Tranexamic Acid, Adenosine and Kojic Acid on the same list, actives
  • Cyanocobalamin on the same list, a vitamin
  • Pyridoxine HCl and Phloretin further down the same list
  • Glutathione and Biosaccharide Gum-1 further down the same list
  • Niacinamide named second on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is the entry this toner is named after, and the list carries it.

Tranexamic Acidactive

Tranexamic Acid is a synthetic amino acid derivative used for the look of stubborn discolouration and post-blemish marks. It is water soluble, stable and comfortable next to niacinamide, which is how it is usually paired. It is named fifteenth on this toner's list, alongside Niacinamide.

Adenosineactive

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated. The panel names it eighteenth on this toner's list, beside Niacinamide.

Kojic Acidactive

Kojic Acid comes from the fermentation of rice by Aspergillus, the mould used to make sake. It is used in formulas addressed to the look of uneven tone, and it darkens in air. The panel names it twenty-ninth on this toner's list, beside Niacinamide.

Cyanocobalaminvitamin

Cyanocobalamin is vitamin B12, and it is a deep pink-red, which is why a formula carrying it often has a colour nobody added on purpose. It is used as a conditioning vitamin. The panel names it twenty-fifth on this toner's list, beside Niacinamide.

How to use

  1. Use the Niacinamide TXA Brightening Booster Toner straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp.
  2. Pour a coin-sized pool into your palms and press it over the face in two passes rather than dragging it around with a cotton pad.
  3. It goes on before serum and moisturizer, and the damp layer it leaves is what the step above it holds on to.
  4. Twice a day, every day. Do not let it dry down completely before the next layer goes on, or you lose the reason for applying it to damp skin.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this toner on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Niacinamide on the list.
  • Introduce this toner on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Niacinamide rather than to three changes at once.
