How it works

The Skin-Glow Essence Cream is a 50ml cream, used as the last skincare step, morning and evening, over serum. The active it is built around is Niacinamide, named sixth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Bifida Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus Ferment and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate, so the active is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Niacinamide stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the cream format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the cream Biodance sells in Korea, Niacinamide and all.

Key benefits

  • Niacinamide, the active this cream is built around
  • Bifida Ferment Filtrate, Lactobacillus Ferment and Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate on the same list, ferments
  • Ceramide NP on the same list, a barrier lipid
  • Ceramide NS and Phytosphingosine further down the same list
  • Cholesterol and Ceramide AS further down the same list
  • Niacinamide named sixth on the manufacturer list printed on this page

Key actives

Niacinamideactive

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. On this cream's own ingredient list it is named sixth.

Bifida Ferment Filtrateferment

Bifida Ferment Filtrate is the liquid strained off a bifidobacteria culture, with the cells filtered out. It is the fraction the first-essence category is built on and is used for the look of tired, reactive skin. The panel names it fourteenth on this cream's list, beside Niacinamide.

Lactobacillus Fermentferment

Lactobacillus Ferment is the liquid left after lactobacillus bacteria have fermented a plant or milk substrate. It carries the small molecules the fermentation produced, including lactic acid and amino acids, and is used for the look of dull, uneven skin. The panel names it twenty-ninth on this cream's list, beside Niacinamide.

Lactobacillus Ferment Lysateferment

Lactobacillus Ferment Lysate is the ferment with the bacterial cells broken open, so their contents are in the formula too. It is a conditioning ferment used in barrier-focused products. The panel names it thirtieth on this cream's list, beside Niacinamide.

Ceramide NPbarrier lipid

Ceramide NP is the most used cosmetic ceramide, the same class of lipid that makes up roughly half the mortar between cells in the outer layer of skin. Added to a cream it slots into that structure, which is why ceramide formulas feel less leaky rather than merely greasy. It is named twentieth on this cream's list, alongside Niacinamide.

How to use

  1. Use the Skin-Glow Essence Cream last in the evening, and under sunscreen in the morning.
  2. A pea-sized amount for the whole face, pressed in rather than rubbed, while skin is still damp from the layer before it.
  3. It goes on after your serum or ampoule. In the morning your sunscreen is the only thing that follows it.
  4. Twice a day, every day. Do not put a water-based layer on top of it, because nothing thin sits well over a seal.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test this cream on a small area and wait a day before using it more widely, especially with Niacinamide on the list.
  • Introduce this cream on its own for the first week, so anything your skin does is traceable to the Niacinamide rather than to three changes at once.
