How it works
The Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus is a 200ml toner, used straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp. The humectant it is built around is Sodium Hyaluronate, named sixth on its own ingredient list. The same list carries Biosaccharide Gum-1, Beta-Glucan and Portulaca Oleracea Extract, so the humectant is not the only thing on it worth naming. How much of the Sodium Hyaluronate stays on the skin, and for how long, is decided by the toner format rather than by the list alone. This is the Original Korean Formula, the toner Isntree sells in Korea, Sodium Hyaluronate and all.
Key benefits
- Sodium Hyaluronate, the humectant this toner is built around
- Biosaccharide Gum-1 and Beta-Glucan on the same list, polysaccharides
- Portulaca Oleracea Extract and Centella Asiatica Extract on the same list, plant extracts
- Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract and Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract further down the same list
- Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract and Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract further down the same list
- Sodium Hyaluronate named sixth on the manufacturer list printed on this page
Key actives
Sodium Hyaluronatehumectant
Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it. It is the entry this toner is named after, and the list carries it.
Biosaccharide Gum-1polysaccharide
Biosaccharide Gum-1 is a fermentation-derived sugar polymer that binds to skin and holds a moisture film in place. It gives a silky, non-tacky feel. It is named sixteenth on this toner's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.
Beta-Glucanpolysaccharide
Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide from oats or yeast. It holds a large amount of water, forms a soothing film, and is one of the ingredients formulators reach for in products aimed at reactive skin. The panel names it twenty-seventh on this toner's list, beside Sodium Hyaluronate.
Portulaca Oleracea Extractplant extract
Portulaca Oleracea is purslane. Its extract is unusually high in omega-3 fatty acids and antioxidants for a plant, and Korean formulas use it for the look of reddened, reactive skin. It is named fourteenth on this toner's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.
Centella Asiatica Extractplant extract
Centella Asiatica is the plant behind the whole cica category, sold as gotu kola or Madagascar centella. Its extract is the anchor of Korean formulas built for easily reddened skin, and its work is done by four triterpenes: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid. It is named eighteenth on this toner's list, alongside Sodium Hyaluronate.
Isntree Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus
Where does this toner go in my routine?
Straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp. Anything thinner than a toner goes on before it, and anything richer goes on after. If you are adding it to a routine you already like, give it a week on its own first, so what you see is the Sodium Hyaluronate and not three changes at once.
Is this the Korean-market toner or a US version?
The Korean-market one, Sodium Hyaluronate and all. We match this toner to its Korean barcode before it reaches the shelf, which is the check that tells you which market release you are holding.
What else is on the list besides Sodium Hyaluronate?
Biosaccharide Gum-1, Beta-Glucan and Portulaca Oleracea Extract. The order they are printed in on this toner's panel is the order on the box, so you can see where Sodium Hyaluronate sits relative to them. Further down the same panel: Centella Asiatica Extract, Scutellaria Baicalensis Root Extract and Polygonum Cuspidatum Root Extract.

How to use
- Use the Hyaluronic Acid Toner Plus straight after cleansing, morning and evening, while the face is still damp.
- Pour a coin-sized pool into your palms and press it over the face in two passes rather than dragging it around with a cotton pad.
- It goes on before serum and moisturizer, and the damp layer it leaves is what the step above it holds on to.
- Twice a day, every day. Do not let it dry down completely before the next layer goes on, or you lose the reason for applying it to damp skin.
Worth knowing
- Patch test on the inner arm before a first full-face application if skin tends to react easily.
- Store away from direct sunlight and high heat to keep the texture and scent stable over time.
- Introduce one new active at a time when adding this into an existing routine.
