How it works

Bifida Ferment Lysate leads the ingredient panel on this toner pad. Bifida Ferment Lysate is a bifidobacteria ferment with the cells broken open. It is the ingredient behind the first-essence category and is used for the look of tired, reactive skin. On this panel it sits alongside Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate, Kojic Acid and Gluconolactone. Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is a yeast ferment filtered clear, the ingredient that made the Korean and Japanese essence category. It carries amino acids, vitamins and organic acids and is used for the look of dullness and rough texture.

Key benefits

  • Bifida Ferment Lysate named on this product's own ingredient panel, near the top of it
  • Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate on the same panel, the formula's ferment
  • Kojic Acid on the same panel, the formula's active
  • Korean GS1 barcode matched against a Korea sourcing supplier's record for this item

Key actives

Bifida Ferment Lysate

Bifida Ferment Lysate is a bifidobacteria ferment with the cells broken open. It is the ingredient behind the first-essence category and is used for the look of tired, reactive skin.

Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate

Galactomyces Ferment Filtrate is a yeast ferment filtered clear, the ingredient that made the Korean and Japanese essence category. It carries amino acids, vitamins and organic acids and is used for the look of dullness and rough texture.

Kojic Acid

Kojic Acid comes from the fermentation of rice by Aspergillus, the mould used to make sake. It is used in formulas addressed to the look of uneven tone, and it darkens in air.

Gluconolactone

Gluconolactone is a PHA, the gentlest exfoliant class. Its molecule is too large to penetrate quickly, so it smooths the surface without the sting of an AHA, and it is a humectant at the same time.

How to use

  1. Start at two nights a week and build up only if the skin stays comfortable afterwards.
  2. Sweep outward across the face with the textured side, working on damp skin so the pad glides.
  3. Give the nose and chin a second pass, then press the smooth side over everything to leave the liquid behind.
  4. Do not use it on the same night as another exfoliating product, and never on skin that is already stinging.

Worth knowing

  • Introduce it two to three nights a week at first and watch how skin responds before using it nightly.
  • Layer sunscreen the following morning, since any exfoliating step raises how visible the sun's effects can be.

What skin-care professionals say about skin care, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • Pretty much every step of a Korean skin care routine is going to have some component of hydration.

  • This means that gluconolactone acts as an exfoliating acid, but also as a moisturizer. It has moisturizing, soothing, and lightening properties, working well on dry skin.
