Key actives

Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract

Centella Asiatica is the plant behind the whole cica category, sold as gotu kola or Madagascar centella. Its extract is the anchor of Korean formulas built for easily reddened skin, and its work is done by four triterpenes: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid.

Asiaticoside

Asiaticoside is one of the four active triterpenes isolated from centella and the most studied of them. Korean formulas name it separately when they want to show which fraction of the plant they standardised.

Asiatic Acid

Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.

Pinus Densiflora Leaf Extract

Pinus Densiflora is Korean red pine, a plant with a long history in Korean traditional use. The needle extract is used as an antioxidant plant extract.

Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract

Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract is gardenia extract broken into smaller fragments so a water-based formula can carry it evenly.

Hydrolyzed Malt Extract

Malt extract with its sugars and proteins already broken into smaller pieces. It is used as a hydrating, conditioning extract.

How to use

  1. Use Round Lab For Men Pine Soothing Cica Cream 75ml morning and night. Apply a pea-sized to coin-sized amount, over your finished toner, essence and serum, onto skin that is still slightly damp. It goes last, as the final leave-on step of your routine, morning and night.

How it works

The panel on this cream names six forms of centella asiatica rather than one: Centella Asiatica Leaf Extract, Centella Asiatica Extract, Asiaticoside, Asiatic Acid, Madecassoside, Madecassic Acid. On this panel it sits alongside Pinus Densiflora Leaf Extract, Hydrolyzed Gardenia Florida Extract and Hydrolyzed Malt Extract. Pinus Densiflora is Korean red pine, a plant with a long history in Korean traditional use. The needle extract is used as an antioxidant plant extract.

Worth knowing

  • Give it a minute to settle before applying sunscreen over it in the morning, since a cream applied too heavily can make the next layer slide.
  • Use a thinner layer over the T-zone and a fuller one over drier areas if your skin is combination rather than uniformly dry.
