How it works

Round Lab Pine Calming Cica Pad is built as a pre-soaked toner pad, so its texture and finish are designed around one specific place in a routine rather than several. The formula's own ingredient list carries Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5), Sodium Hyaluronate, Madecassoside (Centella Asiatica) among its named ingredients, placed at a level consistent with a pre-soaked toner pad rather than a spot treatment. The texture is built for use right after cleansing, in place of a poured toner, which is why it behaves differently on skin than a product meant for a different point in a routine. This is the Korean-market formula of the pine calming cica pad, the version sold on shelves in Korea rather than a formula reworked for a different market.

Key benefits

  • Centella asiatica extract leads a list that also carries all four purified cica compounds
  • Gluconolactone, a PHA, and capryloyl salicylic acid, an LHA, gently refine rough texture
  • Panthenol, betaine and sodium hyaluronate hydrate where the pad rests
  • Note: despite the Pine name, no pine botanical appears on this pad's own ingredient list; the calming here is centella-led

Key actives

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)

A humectant and skin-conditioning agent that helps the formula feel soft and comfortable rather than tight once it has absorbed, a staple of Korean toners and creams.

Sodium Hyaluronate

A smaller-molecule form of hyaluronic acid that spreads easily and helps the finish feel dewy rather than heavy.

Madecassoside (Centella Asiatica)

The signature centella (cica) compound in Korean calming skincare, included here to keep the finish feeling settled rather than reactive on skin that flushes easily.

Asiaticoside (Centella Asiatica)

A centella-derived compound from the same cica family as madecassoside, carried in this formula for its place in calming-focused Korean skincare.

Asiatic Acid (Centella Asiatica)

Another of the four centella actives, included as part of this formula's full cica complex rather than a single isolated extract.

How to use

  1. Use one pad from the Pine Calming Cica Pad in the evening, after cleansing, in place of the toner step.
  2. Sweep the textured side outward in one pass per area, then press the smooth side over the cheeks. One pad covers the whole face.
  3. Follow with a hydrating layer and your moisturizer the same evening, and leave your usual serum out on the nights you use it.
  4. Two or three evenings a week to begin with. Do not pair it with another acid or a retinoid in the same routine.

Worth knowing

  • Sweep rather than scrub the pad across skin, since pressure rather than the formula itself is what causes irritation with a pad format.
  • Cut back to once daily if any of the pads carry an exfoliating acid and skin starts to feel tight or reactive.

  • Pantothenol is a common ingredient in skin care and hair products I recommend, particularly for people who are prone to dryness.

  • Hyaluronic acid helps bind water to collagen, which traps water in the skin. That helps make the skin more plump and full-looking.
