Key actives

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract

Rice Extract is the anchor of the Korean rice-skincare category. It carries starches, amino acids and ferulic acid, and it is used for the look of dullness and for a soft, blurred finish.

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Water

Rice Bran Water is the water from washing or steeping rice bran, the traditional Korean and Japanese rinse. It is used in place of plain water as a formula base.

Oryza Sativa (Rice) Seed Water

Rice water, the liquid from steeping or washing the grain, and the oldest ingredient in the Korean rice tradition. It stands in for part of the plain water in a formula.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.

Adenosine

Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated.

Aspergillus Ferment

Aspergillus Ferment is a mould ferment, from the same organism family used to make soy sauce and sake. It supplies amino acids and organic acids and is used as a conditioning ferment.

How it works

The panel on this toner names three forms of rice rather than one: Oryza Sativa (Rice) Extract, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Bran Water, Oryza Sativa (Rice) Seed Water. Rice Extract is the anchor of the Korean rice-skincare category. It carries starches, amino acids and ferulic acid, and it is used for the look of dullness and for a soft, blurred finish. On this panel it sits alongside Niacinamide, Adenosine and Aspergillus Ferment. Niacinamide is vitamin B3, and it is the most studied active in Korean formulation. It is used at roughly 2 to 5 percent for the look of uneven tone and visible pores, and it is water soluble, stable and comfortable beside almost every other active, which is why it turns up in so many lists.

How to use

  1. Use it right after cleansing, before essence or serum, on a cotton pad or pressed in with hands. AM and PM.

  • Niacinamide helps reduce the appearance of pores in a few ways. By strengthening the skin barrier and improving elasticity, pores appear less noticeable and more even.
