How it works
THE THERAPY Hydrating Formula Emulsion 130ml is an emulsion from THE FACE SHOP, formulated to do one job well within a layered Korean routine. Its texture is built for its step: light enough to sit under later layers, or rich enough to sit as a final step, depending on where an emulsion lands in the order of a routine. THE FACE SHOP builds its Korean-market lines around a single clear purpose per product, so this formula is not asked to double as a serum, a mask and a cream at once. It is the Korean-market version, the same formula sold in Korea, with its Korean-market batch coding intact rather than swapped for a US-only run. That sourcing is the difference between this listing and a US-shelf reformulation carrying the same name.
Key benefits
- An emulsion built by THE FACE SHOP, formulated to its own single step rather than stacking claims an emulsion does not need.
- Texture and finish are built for layering, so it sits under or over the rest of a routine without disrupting it.
- Comes as the Korean-market formula, sourced for the Korean market rather than reformulated for US shelves.
- Carries intact Korean-market packaging and batch coding, the same box a shopper would find on the shelf in Korea.
- Sized and packaged for daily use as part of a layered Korean routine, not a one-off treatment.
How to use
- Use it as the light moisturizer step, AM and PM, after serum in place of a heavier cream, giving it a moment to settle before the next step.
How do I know this is authentic and not a US-reformulated version?
Check the box against the listing: an authentic Korean-market SKU carries Korean-primary packaging and an intact Korean-market batch code, not a US-only relabel. THE FACE SHOP's Korean-market formulas are sourced specifically to preserve that, rather than substituted for the US-shelf version some retailers carry under the same name.
When in a routine should I use this emulsion?
Use it as the light moisturizer step, AM and PM, after serum in place of a heavier cream. Placing an emulsion out of order is the most common reason a Korean routine feels like it is not working, so keep this one at its own step rather than doubling it up with a product built for a different stage. Give it a few weeks at that placement before judging the result.
Is this the same formula sold in Korea, or a US version?
This is the authentic Korean-market version of the formula, not a US-shelf substitute. THE FACE SHOP sells a separate reformulation on some US shelves, and this listing is not that version. The Korean-market batch coding and packaging travel with it, which is the detail worth checking against the box on arrival.
What kind of texture does this emulsion have?
THE FACE SHOP formulates its emulsions for the finish that format is known for: light enough to layer without pilling, and finished for a Korean routine rather than a heavier US-market equivalent. It is built to sit at its own step, not to double as a different product type.
Is this emulsion fragranced?
Fragrance varies by formula, and the box lists what this specific version carries. If fragrance sensitivity is a concern, check the ingredient panel on the packaging on arrival before working it into a routine that already runs fragrance-free.
Not on the ingredient list below: denatured or SD alcohol, essential oils, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

32 of 34 explained
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Propanediol humectant
- Propanediol is a plant-derived glycol used in place of propylene glycol. It hydrates, carries actives into solution, and gives a lighter, less sticky slip than glycerin at the same strength.
- Dimethicone silicone
- Dimethicone is the most used cosmetic silicone. It forms a breathable film that smooths the surface, slows water leaving skin, and gives the slip that makes a primer or cream feel silky. It is inert and does not penetrate.
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate emollient
- Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is a synthetic ester used as a dry-feeling emollient. It spreads easily, leaves a silky rather than oily finish, and helps disperse pigments and UV filters evenly.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride emollient
- Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is the light fraction of coconut oil, with the heavy parts removed. It is the workhorse emollient of modern formulas: it softens skin, dissolves oil-soluble actives and absorbs without the greasy weight of a whole plant oil.
- Glyceryl Stearate emulsifier
- Glyceryl Stearate is glycerin joined to stearic acid, and one of the most used emulsifiers in skincare. It holds oil and water together and thickens the result, and it softens skin at the same time.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Panthenol humectant
- Panthenol is pro-vitamin B5: skin converts it to pantothenic acid. It is a humectant that holds water and leaves skin feeling soft and less tight, and it is one of the ingredients formulators reach for when a formula also contains something harsh.
- Betaine humectant
- Betaine is a sugar-beet-derived humectant that cells use to hold water. In a formula it hydrates and takes the edge off cleansers and acids, which is why it often appears alongside them.
- PEG-100 Stearate emulsifier
- PEG-100 Stearate is a water-loving emulsifier almost always paired with glyceryl stearate. Together they form the standard cream base of the last fifty years.
- Honey Extract humectant
- Honey is a natural humectant loaded with sugars and trace acids. In a formula it holds water at the surface and leaves a soft, cushioned feel.
20 more explained
- Avena Sativa (oat) Meal Extract plant extract
- Oatmeal extract, carrying the beta-glucan, starch and avenanthramides oats are used for. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily bothered skin.
- Lavandula Angustifolia (lavender) Flower Extract plant extract
- Lavender Flower Extract is the water-based extract rather than the essential oil, so it is much milder and less aromatic.
- Rosa Damascena Flower Extract plant extract
- Damask rose flower extract, the rose grown for perfume. It carries tannins and flavonoids and is used as a conditioning extract.
- Caprylic/Capric Glycerides emollient
- The partial glycerides of the same short coconut fatty acids used to make caprylic/capric triglyceride. They are lighter than the triglyceride and help dissolve actives.
- Stearic Acid fatty acid
- Stearic Acid is a saturated fatty acid from plant fats, and one of the three lipid classes skin's own barrier is built from. In a formula it thickens, stabilises the emulsion and can be turned into a soap-style cleanser by adding a base.
- Behenyl Alcohol fatty alcohol
- Behenyl Alcohol is a long-chain fatty alcohol used to thicken and stabilise a cream. It gives a richer, more velvety body than cetyl alcohol.
- Hydrogenated Lecithin emulsifier
- Hydrogenated Lecithin is lecithin with its unsaturated bonds filled in, which makes it far more stable. It emulsifies and is the standard shell for the liposomes that carry actives into the outer layer of skin.
- Cyclopentasiloxane silicone
- Cyclopentasiloxane is a volatile silicone: it spreads a formula thin and smooth then evaporates, leaving no residue. It is the silicone behind a dry, powdery primer finish.
- Fragrance fragrance
- Fragrance, or Parfum, is a single declaration standing for a whole scent blend, which can be dozens of materials. Regulators allow it as a trade secret, so a list showing only this word does not say what the scent is made of. It is the most common trigger named by people with reactive skin.
- Phenoxyethanol preservative
- Phenoxyethanol is the most widely used cosmetic preservative outside the paraben family. It keeps a water-containing formula from growing bacteria and mould, and is capped at one percent in most markets, so it always sits low on a list.
- Carbomer thickener
- Carbomer is a synthetic polymer that only gels once a base neutralises it, which is why arginine or tromethamine sits nearby on the list. It gives the clear, non-stringy gel texture a xanthan formula cannot reach.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- Potassium Hydroxide pH adjuster
- Potassium Hydroxide is a strong base used in traces to raise a formula to its target pH. In a soap-style cleanser it also converts fatty acids into the surfactant that does the cleansing.
- Disodium EDTA chelator
- EDTA is a chelator: it locks up trace metal ions from water and packaging that would otherwise turn a formula cloudy, off-colour or rancid. It does nothing to skin and appears at a fraction of a percent.
- Dimethiconol silicone
- Dimethiconol is a high-molecular-weight silicone that leaves a longer-lasting smooth film than dimethicone. It is used for lasting slip and shine.
- Adenosine active
- Adenosine is a nucleoside that Korea's own cosmetic authority recognises as a wrinkle-care functional ingredient, which is why it appears on so many Korean lists at a low level. It is used for the look of fine lines and is stable and well tolerated.
- Sodium Hyaluronate humectant
- Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it.
- Limonene fragrance component
- Limonene is the citrus-peel aromatic. It appears here because EU labelling requires 26 fragrance components to be named individually rather than hidden inside "fragrance", and it is one of them.
- Geraniol fragrance component
- Geraniol is a rose-scented aromatic found in geranium and citronella oils. It is one of the 26 declarable fragrance components.
- Linalool fragrance component
- Linalool is a floral aromatic found in lavender, bergamot and coriander. It is one of the 26 fragrance components EU labelling requires to be declared by name.
