Key actives
centella asiatica extract
Centella Asiatica is the plant behind the whole cica category, sold as gotu kola or Madagascar centella. Its extract is the anchor of Korean formulas built for easily reddened skin, and its work is done by four triterpenes: asiaticoside, madecassoside, asiatic acid and madecassic acid.
asiatic acid
Asiatic Acid is the third of centella's four triterpenes and the aglycone form, meaning it has no attached sugar. It is oil soluble, so it turns up in cica creams and balms more than in watery layers.
myristic acid
Myristic Acid is a saturated fatty acid used to thicken and, with a base added, to build the foam in a soap-style cleanser.
lauric acid
Lauric Acid is the coconut fatty acid that gives soap-style cleansers their dense foam. It is not well suited to blemish-prone skin at high levels.
beeswax
Beeswax is the wax bees build comb from. In a formula it thickens the oil phase and forms a breathable, water-resisting film, which is what makes a balm hold its shape.
How to use
- Use morning and night as the cleansing step, following an oil or balm cleanser at night rather than using it alone to remove makeup. Work a coin-sized amount into a lather on damp skin for about 30 seconds, then rinse with lukewarm water.
Will this dry out my skin?
It is formulated to lift daily grime and makeup residue without leaving a stripped feeling for most users, though very dry skin may prefer using it once a day instead of twice.
Morning, night, or both?
Most routines use it both morning and night, following an oil or balm cleanser at night rather than relying on foam alone to remove makeup. If your skin reacts in a way that feels off, stop use and give your skin a few days to settle before trying it again.
Does it help with breakouts?
It is a cosmetic cleanser rather than a treatment product, so pair it with your existing spot care routine rather than expecting the cleanser alone to address breakouts. If your skin reacts in a way that feels off, stop use and give your skin a few days to settle before trying it again.
How much product do I need?
A coin-sized amount worked into a lather on damp skin is typical; more product does not clean better and can just feel harder to rinse. If your skin reacts in a way that feels off, stop use and give your skin a few days to settle before trying it again.
Can sensitive skin use this daily?
Many sensitive-skin users tolerate a foaming cleanser fine, but if skin feels tight after rinsing, cutting back to once a day is a reasonable adjustment rather than pushing through it.

How it works
The panel on this foaming cleanser names seven forms of centella asiatica rather than one: centella asiatica extract, centella asiatica leaf extract, centella asiatica root extract, asiatic acid, asiaticoside, madecassic acid, madecassoside. On this panel it sits alongside myristic acid, lauric acid and beeswax. Myristic Acid is a saturated fatty acid used to thicken and, with a base added, to build the foam in a soap-style cleanser.
Worth knowing
- Very dry or sensitized skin may find a foaming cleanser too drying for twice-daily use and can scale back to once a day.
- Introduce any new product gradually rather than adding several new steps to a routine at once, so any reaction is easy to trace back to the right cause.
