How it works
A toner is a water step and this one is built to be nothing more than that, which is the point. It goes on within a minute of rinsing so the serum and cream after it land on damp skin rather than dry, and it leaves no treatment work behind for you to account for. That makes it the easiest step to keep constant while you test something else. A treatment toner in the same slot would be a second variable. Judge it on whether the tight feeling after cleansing is gone before your next step.
How to use
- Apply it within a minute of cleansing while the skin is still damp from rinsing.
- Pour a small pool into your palms and press it in with flat hands rather than rubbing.
- Move to your serum while the skin is damp, since that is when the next layer spreads furthest.
- Do not soak a cotton pad with it, because most of the toner stays in the cotton rather than on your face.
What does this toner do?
It puts a thin water layer on the skin straight after cleansing so the steps after it land on a damp surface. It carries no treatment work, which is deliberate rather than a shortcoming.
Why choose a plain toner?
Because it is the easiest step to keep constant. When you are testing a new serum or cream, a first step that does nothing else means anything that changes can be traced to the product you actually changed.
Hands or cotton pad?
Hands. A cotton pad absorbs most of what you pour, so you use more product for a thinner layer. Pour a small pool into your palms and press it on with flat hands instead.
Do I still need a moisturiser?
Yes. A toner brings water to the surface and a moisturiser keeps it there. Used alone the water evaporates, and the skin can end up feeling tighter than before you started.
How long does 150ml last?
At twice daily use, six to eight weeks on the face and neck. Pressing it in from the palms rather than soaking cotton is the main thing that stretches the bottle.

- Water/Aqua solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- Bifida Ferment Extract ferment
- An extract of a bifidobacteria culture, the same organism behind bifida ferment lysate. It is used as a conditioning ferment.
