How to use
- Use one pad from the Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad straight after cleansing, morning and evening.
- Sweep the textured side outward across the face, then press the smooth side over anywhere that felt tight.
- It replaces the toner step, so serum and moisturizer follow it in the usual order while skin is still damp.
- One pad a session, twice a day. Do not go back over the same area again and again; a soaked pad is an application tool, not a scrub.
Does this product contain added fragrance?
No. Neither fragrance nor parfum appears on the ingredient list for SKINFOOD Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad 250g (60 Pads). Those are the two names a cosmetic label uses for an added scent blend, so a formula carrying one would name it. The full list is printed in the Ingredients section of this page.
Does this product contain essential oils?
Yes. The ingredient list for SKINFOOD Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad 250g (60 Pads) includes Pogostemon Cablin Oil, Lavandula Hybrida Oil and Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Peel Oil. Aromatic plant oils are listed under their botanical name rather than as fragrance, so they are named separately from any fragrance or parfum entry.
Are any declarable fragrance allergens listed?
No. None of the 26 fragrance components that EU cosmetic labelling requires to be named individually appear on the ingredient list for SKINFOOD Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad 250g (60 Pads). They are the components most often reported as contact allergens, which is why that rule names them one by one.
Does this product contain denatured or SD alcohol?
No. The ingredient list for SKINFOOD Carrot Carotene Calming Water Pad 250g (60 Pads) names no denatured alcohol, SD alcohol or ethanol. Fatty alcohols such as cetyl and cetearyl alcohol are a different class of ingredient, used as emollients and thickeners, and are not counted here.
Not on the ingredient list below: fragrance or parfum, denatured or SD alcohol, silicones, parabens, sulfate surfactants, mineral oil or petrolatum and added color.

25 of 25 explained
- Water solvent
- Water is the base almost every serum, toner and cream is built on. It dissolves the water-loving ingredients and sets how light the finished texture feels. On an INCI list it is usually first, which only means it is the largest single ingredient by weight.
- Glycerin humectant
- Glycerin is the most used humectant in skincare. It draws water into the outer layer of skin and holds it there, and it is one of the very few ingredients whose hydrating effect is settled science rather than marketing. Higher amounts feel tacky, which is why it is usually blended.
- Butylene Glycol humectant
- Butylene Glycol is a small glycol that does two jobs at once: it holds water in the top layer of skin and it dissolves plant extracts and actives that plain water cannot. It also thins a formula, which is why watery Korean essences lean on it.
- 1,2-Hexanediol humectant
- 1,2-Hexanediol is a glycol used for two reasons: it holds water like glycerin, and it makes a formula harder for microbes to live in, so less traditional preservative is needed. Korean formulas use it heavily for that second reason.
- C12-14 Alketh-12 emulsifier
- C12-14 Alketh-12 is a solubiliser used to keep oils and fragrance dissolved in a water-based formula.
- Ethylhexylglycerin preservative booster
- Ethylhexylglycerin softens skin and boosts a preservative system, which is why it is nearly always sitting beside phenoxyethanol or 1,2-hexanediol. It also cuts down the odour bacteria produce, so it turns up in deodorising products.
- Sodium Citrate pH adjuster
- Sodium Citrate is the salt of citric acid, used as a buffer: it holds a formula at a steady pH rather than pushing it in one direction. It is also a mild chelator.
- Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) Root Extract plant extract
- Carrot Root Extract carries carotenoids, which give it a strong orange colour. It is used as an antioxidant extract and can tint a formula.
- Sodium Phytate chelator
- Sodium Phytate is a rice-derived chelator used in place of EDTA. It ties up trace metals so the formula stays stable and its colour and scent hold.
- Sodium Hyaluronate humectant
- Sodium Hyaluronate is the salt of hyaluronic acid, and it is what most products labelled hyaluronic actually contain. The salt dissolves more readily and the molecule is smaller, so it sits in the outer layer of skin rather than only on top of it.
- Citric Acid pH adjuster
- Citric Acid is used in tiny amounts to bring a formula to the pH its actives need, not as an exfoliant at that level. It is an AHA, so at much higher concentrations it can also exfoliate.
- Hydroxyethylcellulose thickener
- Hydroxyethylcellulose is a cellulose thickener that builds a clear, smooth gel and holds the rest of the formula in suspension.
13 more explained
- Beta-Glucan polysaccharide
- Beta-Glucan is a polysaccharide from oats or yeast. It holds a large amount of water, forms a soothing film, and is one of the ingredients formulators reach for in products aimed at reactive skin.
- Allantoin active
- Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin.
- Saccharide Hydrolysate humectant
- Saccharide Hydrolysate is a mixture of plant sugars broken down for use as a humectant. It holds water in the outer layer.
- Maltodextrin film former
- Maltodextrin is a starch-derived sugar chain used to carry powdered extracts and to form a light film. It also gives a soft, smoothing feel.
- Daucus Carota Sativa (carrot) Seed Oil emollient
- Carrot seed oil, pressed from the seed rather than the root. It is used as a conditioning oil and carries its own earthy scent.
- Olea Europaea (olive) Fruit Oil emollient
- Olive Fruit Oil is high in oleic acid and plant sterols. It is a rich emollient that suits dry skin and is heavy enough that blemish-prone skin often does not get on with it.
- Pogostemon Cablin Oil fragrance component
- Patchouli oil, steam distilled from the leaves. It is one of the heaviest, longest lasting aromatic oils and is used to scent a formula and to hold lighter notes in place.
- Salvia Officinalis (sage) Oil fragrance component
- Sage essential oil. It scents a formula and carries the plant's own aromatic compounds, which is also why it can bother reactive skin.
- Lavandula Hybrida Oil fragrance
- Lavandin oil, from the hybrid lavender grown for perfumery. It is sharper and more camphorous than true lavender.
- Artemisia Vulgaris Oil fragrance component
- Mugwort essential oil. It scents a formula as well as conditioning it, and essential oils are the class most likely to bother reactive skin.
- Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (orange) Peel Oil fragrance component
- Sweet Orange Peel Oil is a citrus essential oil carrying limonene. It scents a formula, and limonene is one of the components EU labelling names separately.
- Undaria Pinnatifida Extract plant extract
- Extract of the brown seaweed Korean cooking calls miyeok. It carries fucoidan and alginates, both strong water-holding polysaccharides.
- Caprylyl Glycol preservative booster
- Caprylyl Glycol is a glycol that conditions skin and, more importantly, strengthens a preservative system so less of the traditional preservative is needed. It appears in most modern formulas built without parabens.
