How it works

Lactic Acid leads the ingredient panel on this toner pad. Lactic Acid is a larger AHA than glycolic, so it works nearer the surface and is easier on skin, and it is a humectant as well as an exfoliant. It is the AHA of choice for dry skin. On this panel it sits alongside Salicylic Acid, Allantoin and Betaine Salicylate. Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Key benefits

  • Lactic Acid named on this product's own ingredient panel, near the top of it
  • Salicylic Acid on the same panel, the formula's exfoliant
  • Allantoin on the same panel, the formula's active
  • 70 pads to a unit
  • Korean-market formula, with its Korean barcode and batch code intact on the box

Key actives

Lactic Acid

Lactic Acid is a larger AHA than glycolic, so it works nearer the surface and is easier on skin, and it is a humectant as well as an exfoliant. It is the AHA of choice for dry skin.

Salicylic Acid

Salicylic Acid is a BHA, and the only common exfoliant that is oil soluble, so it can work inside a pore rather than only on the surface. It loosens the dead cells that block pores and is used for the look of congested, oily skin.

Allantoin

Allantoin is a comfrey-derived compound used to condition skin and soften the outer layer so it feels smoother. It is one of the standard additions to a formula built for easily irritated skin.

Betaine Salicylate

Betaine Salicylate is a gentler salicylic derivative. Korean formulas use it at around 2 to 4 percent, which is roughly comparable to a low-strength salicylic acid, and it is easier on the skin barrier.

How to use

  1. Use this toner pad as the toning step right after cleansing. To apply, sweep one pad over the face and neck after cleansing, working outward from the center. Keep it to AM/PM unless the packaging states otherwise, and give the rest of the routine a moment to settle before layering the next step.

Worth knowing

  • Patch test on the inner arm before the first full-face application, especially on skin that reacts easily to new products.
  • Stop use and rinse off if stinging, burning, or new redness shows up rather than pushing through discomfort.

What professionals say

What professionals say

What skin-care professionals say about the key actives in this formula, quoted from the medical sources linked beside each.

  • As we age, the glue that holds our skin cells together becomes denser, which slows down the natural cell turnover process.

Samantha Stein, PA-CDermatology physician assistant, Cleveland Clinic
  • Allantoin can tone down the dryness of the individual cells. It increases the water content of the skin, which means it helps to hydrate and moisturize.
